3 Steps to a 2021 Reset

2020 was a YEAR and, if you’re anything like me, you are very much looking forward to 2021. I am more than ready to have meet-cutes and flirt up a storm!

But, before we get there, we have to cross the threshold of the new year and with that comes a reset.

For many folks that means making resolutions for the New Year, but not here. I’m not a huge fan of New Years’ resolutions. They put way too much pressure on you and are pretty easy to give up by mid-February (ok, if you’re like me, late January).

So, instead of New Year’s resolutions, I’d like to talk about 3 ways to honor your body as we go into the new year!

1. CELEBRATE MAKING IT TO 2021

Y’all…we made it to 2021! Let me repeat thatwe made it to 2021!

Last year tested us all to the limit and pushed many boundaries. 2020 also showed us how resilient, resourceful and adaptive we can be when learning new ways of working, communicating and interacting. From Zoom dating to socially distanced hangouts, we made connections that counted.

I firmly believe the lessons we learned about resilience and resourcefulness are especially true when thinking about our relationship with our bodies. 

Yes, some of us may be down about the way our shapes might have changed over the last 12 months. TRUST ME, I UNDERSTAND. But I’d like for you to remember that your body has also kept you going and thriving through the type of global pandemic/economic crisis that hasn’t happened in almost a century! Think about it, your body is a serious powerhouse!

Give yourself a pat on the back (or butt) to celebrate the fact you're still here and still standing!

2. FOCUS ON YOUR OWN JOURNEY

Once everything starts opening up and we are able to get out there and mingle, it may be hard not to compare yourself to others. Keeping your eyes on your own paper helps. Your journey is yours and 2021 can be more about how you became a boss both inside and out. How have you built community? Shared resources? Become a more centered person? Figured out what you like (and what you don’t)?

Knowing who you are, what you want and what's most important to you is incredibly hot!

3. SEE YOUR OWN SEXY

Let’s get down to business. Once the world opens up again, you’re going to want to get down and dirty with others. Yet you may have forgotten how to get back in touch with your internal sexy. 

One way of reestablishing the connection is to warm up your own oven! How can someone else find you sexy if you don’t think you’re sexy first? Trust me, it’s almost impossible and the start of 2021 is a good time to begin to change that narrative.

My favorite way to start to love on yourself is to truly SEE yourself and see how glorious you are. So, let’s do an exercise:

Start by looking at yourself in the mirror. I mean it—go to the mirror and look at your fine ass. You can do this with clothes on or in your birthday suit—either way will work. Look at the way you stand, the way your legs move into your hips, the curve of your neck, even how nice your toes look (they're cute toes!). Take a moment to soak in how beautiful and wonderful you are.
Make sure to stop and look yourself in the eyes while scanning your body. Feel free to smile, laugh, and enjoy the experience but NO negative self-talk here. I’m serious! 
Now, pick one thing you like the most. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, but I’d like you to pick something. For me, it’s my arms—they always give me Michelle Obama vibes. Say out loud how much you like that thing and give it a good caress. Do it again. Repeat as often as possible. Soon you’ll start to see and dig other parts of yourself that are just as amazing.

As an added bonus, you’ll start to exude an air of confidence because you know you are ROCKIN’… and that is VERY SEXY.
